The fisheries at Lofoten has been the basic occupation for people living here since times unknown. In fact the once numerous populated fishing villages was founded on the vast ressources of fish, of witch the Cod or "Skrei" was and is the most important species.

During the last decades, the fishing wessels has been build larger and the hole fishing industry more effective and less time consuming. Thus the number of employees has decreased and together with the common urbanisation found everywhere, the once busy villages are not busy the same way as in earlier years. Though the "industrial fishing" still is a large business, the fishing villages is now more and more turned into holiday resorts for visiting anglers that want to challenge the "monsters" by a rod and reel. This fishing is the subject for these pages.

The fish
There are a lot of species lurking around in these seas that will give you a fight that you will never forget. If you are even a modest cook, these fish will tell you how fish can taste. If you will not do it on your own, the local people know how to prepare it for you. They will find the fishing places for you as well, bringing you out in their "sjarks". Do not be to surprised if the fellow that welcomed you at the reception desk, later turns out to be a skipper, a cook and then a source of unbelievable stories in the evening.

The places
To the left you will find some places that will be described as soon as we find the right source of information. We dont have much general information yet, but here are some pictures that will give you a fairly good idea of your opportunities.
