Where to find it

The fish moves around in relation to water temperatures, spawning and
the availability of food. Different types of fish prefer different
conditions on the seabed.
Good fishing spots are often the grounds, depressions, bottom of steep
slopes, ridges, funnels and current channels in the seabed's landscape.
Cod and pollack will often prefer surroundings of seaweed and sea
tangle, cod can also thrive on sand and gravel bottoms. Here, we also
find different types of flatfish, whiting, and haddock. On the rock
bottom there are the smaller catfish and cod, while on the more
continuous rock bottom we can find tusk and ling. Also, whiting can be
found on mud bottoms.
You can find good fishing spots both by studying the sea charts and by
speaking to the locals. There are also excellent guide books describing
good, traditional fishing places. In the book «Fiskeplasser på
Skagerrak-kysten» (Fishing spots on the Skagerrak coast), the authors
Hartvig W. Dannevig and Jon van der Eynden, describe good fishing places
like Klokkebøy-settet, Hausen, Grunnberget, Varøybåene, Bergyltbåen,
Bremsundknatten, Mikkelsbåen, Koljegrunnen, Djupknappen, Høybåen,
Fiebåen, Store og Lille Sildegrunn, Hugget, Lyngørbåen, Østre Bøsse,
Svartskjærsgrunnen and many many more. Here, people have been fishing
large fish for centuries.
