Tovdalselva

The Tovdalselva was once the number three best catching salmon river in Norway. The English fishermen was staying at the Boen Estate where the picture is taken. In the background the Svefte (derived from swift) currents goes white and make a normal conversation difficult in the beautiful garden. The salmon had no problems passing the Svefte currents, but the waterfall Boenfossen was a challenge which made the pool underneath the best fishing pool in the river.

Tovdalselva was probably the first river where the stock of salmon was wiped out due to acidification, around 1970.

Kay Severinsen caught this nice salmon the 11th august 2001. It was his second salmon for the day.

The watercourse has now been limed in a large scale for several years and it looks like a viable salmon stock are established. The liming has also resulted in better conditions for trout and whitefish.

Licenses are obtainable for salmon and sea-trout fishing. The river is divided in a few license areas. A 24 hour licence will cost you NOK 90.- pluss a deposit of NOK 50.- wich is returned when you deliver a catch report.

The season lasts till 30. august. Sea-trout fishing can be productive in this area, especially in August.  Licenses for salmon and sea-trout fishing can be bought at Sentrum Video, Birkeland.

There are trout, whitefish and brookies of varying quality in most parts of the river.
