News & statistics from Suldalslågen Elveigarlag

The river Suldalslågen is running from the lake Suldalsvatnet to Sand where it debouches into Sandsfjorden. On this 22 km long stretch large Atlantic Salmon has been running from time unknown. The salmon has during the centuries playd an important part of peoples lives in this area. The English flyfishermen - lead by Walter E. Archer developed the river to an excellent arena for the sport of angling, met only by a few other Norwegian rivers.

In the later years the river has been facing the threat of acidification, which is a common plague in the southern parts of Norway. There are now initiatives going for a large scale liming project to prevent a decline of the valuable salmon stock found only in this river. By the salmon ladder at Sandsfossen there are buildt a salmon studio, where you can have a look at the salmon through two windows in the studio.
