The river was a good salmon river til the Gyro parasite struck in the seventhies. After then the river has kept some of its former glory, but now due to the magnificent sea-trouts known as "kudde", wich is sea-trout on around 3-4 kg. Despite of the Gyro salmon catches rose from 1163kg in 1998 to 1296 kg in 1999. The sea trout fishing proved even better with a rise from about three thousand kiloes in 1998 to 4666 kg in 1999. Local contacts informs that this was despice the fact that there where a decline in the number of fishermen in the river. We guess the locals may have experienced most of the fun.
If you ever experience a kudde attacking your fly in Driva you will never forget it. If you follow the direction of the rod on the picture, out til where the river goes white, you have an indication where to place a large muddler in the middle of the night. The scene is the Big Pool that belongs to the Elverhøy estate, once perhaps the rivers best salmon pool.
