SPORT FISHING IN NORWAY
Regulations for salmon, sea trout, sea char and inland fishing.
Avoid spreading of fish species
Trout or a limited number of other species are the only fish occurring in many watercourses in Norway, a factor which is favourable to fish and fish management. To avoid spreading of new fish species we repeat: introductions of new fish species, crustaceans or other freshwater organisms to a watercourse are prohibited by law. Minnows, pike, gwyniad, char and other species are continually turning up in new watercourses, and may rapidly destroy fish populations built up over several hundred years. Spreading of minnows has been particularly destructive. Several trout lakes have been ruined by fishermen using live minnows as bait. Remember, the use of live fish as bait is prohibited. Once fishing possibilities are reduced it is often too late to take protective measures. Canadian water weed is an introduced plant with leaves in a ring around the stalk. It is found in the lower reaches of the rivers Drammen and Glomma, and in several lakes near Oslo. The plant has also been discovered in other parts of the country including Vest Agder and Rogaland. This plant causes considerable damage and is easily spread. Plant parts to not survive complete drying out . Therefore all fishing tackle and boats should be properly dried before use in a new watercourse.
