SPORT FISHING IN NORWAY
Regulations for salmon, sea trout, sea char and inland fishing.
Rights of passage on uncultivated earth
The common right to passage on foot in areas which are not cultivated is an important condition for a successful fishing trip. These rights include picnicing, camping and setting up a tent. All areas excepting cultivated earth, cultivated pasturage, planted areas, home sites and farm yards and associated buildings, are regarded as "utmark" (outfields) and are open for free passage. You may also pick mushrooms and berries in such areas. The priviledge of free passage is not without responsibility and should not result in unecessary disturbance of landowners or other users of nature. Boat without engine is permitted almost everywhere. Motorboat is permitted in the sea and in lakes greater than 2 km2. Driver must be above the age of 16 when driving a boat with engine exceeding 10 HP or has a speed limit exceeding 10 knots. A driver licence is not required for boats with weight less than 25 tons.
Remember:
Further information on common rights and walking in utmark is available from the County Governor
and the Directorate for Nature Management.
