The Directorate for Nature Management (DN) is the national agency for nature management in Norway. It is responsible to The Ministry of Environment. DN is based in Trondheim, but has the whole country as its workplace. It has about 125 employees.

The overriding aim of nature management efforts is to safeguard nature's biological diverstity in the long term at the same time as its ability to produce a surplus and to sustain other vital processes is preserved. This implies the aquirement of solid ecological knowledge wich must be applied whenever nature is being used, or natural resources are being exploited.
Another important task for DN is to ensure that everyone can have the opportunity to use nature for traditional open air recreation that provides valuable experiences and a harvest that can be justified.
