Njardarheim

Enlarge to fill screen (879 kbyte) with this picture from  Store Holmevannet in Njardarheim, under the large one there is text  describing what you see. The cairn (N: varde) seen down along the ridge was never ment to help people finding their way. Such stone towers where buildt to attract eagles and falcons, witch was cought in traps mountet on top of the stones.
This is a scenery from Njardarheim, the large mountain area (1000 sq. km) that was bought, piece by piece, by T.M. Heiberg in the period  from 1906 to1912 .

His aim was to have a large area available for hunting and fishing for his own use, and to guide well of European Guests.

(We plan a bit more information about Heiberg when time allows)

Fishing in the Njardarheim area can be good and some places excellent. We have more information on trout fishing here which will be presented when we can accompany the information with pictures. Generally the liming activities, and the fact that acid rain has become less acid has improved fishing alot in the last years. One example of this is the area Storevatn/Taumevatn. It is said that Taumevatn is a lake that can provide excellent fishing.

When we fished the river downstream from Taumevatn and the Store Holmevannet in 1999 we found that this watercourse was only sparsely inhabitated with trout. The rises we observed indicated well sized fish in good condition, but our flies was neglected.

The scenery and the good wheather made it a succsessful trip. In this area you can stay at the tourist hut by Taumevatn or you can bring a tent and stay where you like.
