Oppland
county stretches out from a few miles inside the fjords of Sunnmøre
and south to the border of Oslo. This large county includes areas like
the National Parks Jotunheimen and Rondane, beautiful Valdres and Mjøsa,
Norway's largest lake.
Valdres is one of the beautiful places in Norway wich has the tenderness
of soft green forest highlands, interrupted here and there by the sights
of his majesty the mountains.
The
streams around Gjøvik are at their best in spring and autumn as
the summer often brings little rain and fish are thus trapped in small
pools. We have had a closer look at the streams Lena
(south) and Stokkelva in Snertingdalen
(north). During summer most flyfishermen are converting to trolling using
heavy stuff for the very big ones in Mjøsa, which is the biggest
lake in Norway. For flyfishers' interest, the Mustad fly hooks are produced
here. For ff'ing a river during the summer you would need to go further
north - to Lågen above Lillehammer or to the river Dokka (north-west)
which runs into Randsfjorden. If in
desperate need there is very nice trout taking the fly in Ringsjøen
(Snertingdalen). Try to get in touch with the farmers around this to gain
access to a boat.
