From Herefossfjorden to Birkeland

Picture from the area at Birkenes Kirke

This is one of the most interesting areas regarding flyfishing for brownies. The fish is a bit bigger downstream from Herefossfjorden, and fish on +0.5 kg is often caught. The river offer good currents, but upstream from Birkenes church the river is tranquil. The area at Senumstad is said to hold a number of fine trout as well as perch witch is also caught on the fly here. The salmon, wich are likely to return here after some years of liming, is expected to reduce the stock of trout in this area. The waterfall Herefossen used to be to hard to pass for the salmon and is still regarded the upper limit of the to be salmon bearing part of the river.

Lincences that covers this area and Oggevatn (see map) is obtainable in a lot of gas stations and shops in the area. The price is NOK 25.- a day.
