Nidelva

Nidelva is one of southern Norways largest rivers. It has it sources in Telemark and descends into the sea at three outlets around Arendal. From the sea, the salmon and sea-trout travels a good thirty kilometres up the river where further advance is obstructed by the hydro power plant at Eivinstad . From this point and far into Telemark the river and lakes contains brown trout, brookies and whitefish.

The picture shows a part of Nidelva one kilometer above the power plant at Eivinstad. Set afloat the canoe on the dam and enjoy the scenery as you head for the currents up river. This place offers considerable less rises to your fly than at the Flaten area, but the fish are bigger. The canoe is the best means of getting to this area. The picture is taken during an occasional flood. Here is another picture from this area.

This upper part of the river offers most of a flyfishers delights; scenery, canoeing opportunities and of course - good fishing. This list must be considered mere tasters:

More information on how to fish the river is available at the shop Jakt og Friluft A/S
