Particulary useful in the spring until the water clears. On the downside this fly is INCREDIBLY effective for lake run (and slimy!) suckers. I (Dennis speaking) have found this basic pattern effective with red or green butts, and anything from brown to ginger or whatever hackle, but first choice is black with green butt.
Hook: Mustad 36620, size 4 weighted
Butt: Fluorescent green (tie the butt extra long, or exaggerated)
Body: Brown/gray wool
Hackle: Black schlapen, palmered
